Ultra-Lite Technology

Construction Image

Cruiser SUP Ultra-Lite boards offers a class leading, user friendly "tough", high quality bamboo construction.

Tough: In addition to three layers of 4oz. fiberglass on top and 4oz/6oz layers on bottom, (5 layers of fiberglass wrapping the rails), there is full-length .5mm real bamboo veneer reinforcement (stronger than fiberglass) sandwiched between the first and second fiberglass layers on top and bottom. Carbon and PVC foam reinforcement in the standing area to prevent heel dents. Kevlar cloth is added to the rails, nose and tail for extra ding resistance.

The quality CNC shaped 14kg EPS core is strong to prevent heel dents. This combination is molded for extra strength, impact resistance and lighter weight. The rails are painted in matte finish for improved performance and custom look. The result is a strong and durable premium construction.

Great for exploring!

I wanted a displacement nose, wider stance and especially lighter weight as I explore 300+ miles of the Chattahoochee River, and the Voyager seems to fit the bill. in shopping, I took a chance in several areas. The board arrived yesterday and I immediately headed to a section of the river that featured still shallows, medium current and several sections of barely submerged rock. After having the board in hand and under my feet, albeit for only a couple of hours, I'm positive I made a great choice. THE FINISH: Photos made the matte finish look like something from Costco, but its actually very high quality and near bulletproof, with no dents/scuffs after a few bumps to the bottom and rails. The white bottom does take a lot of rubbing to get off any river residue. THE EXTRAS: The 2 sets of bungees and 4 tie downs aren't nearly as super cool as what's offered on other boards, but by shaving up to 15 pounds and $800 off the price, I'll take it over Brands X and Y. I also love the self venting plug. Why don't all boards have these? THE RIDE: This is the one area I'm going to actively fix. The sharp nose Vee transforms immediately into a 4 foot flat section and then into a slight concave that runs through the fin area and then flat to the square tail. This provides good glide. The problem I'm having is with the overly rounded template as the bottom transitions to the flat part of the rails. (If you're a surfer, it's like the "lean over a lot, but not too much" ride of the old 50/50 rails. If you're a sailor, it's like the tippy handling of a 420.) The result is a loss of stability in cross currents and less straight line tracking. Some of this is redeemed by the 34" width, but I find myself wishing for a more pronounce and longer Vee in the bottom. I'm going to switch to a different fin or perhaps install a box mid bottom and use the center fin from an FCS River Keel set up. THE SERVICE: Simply the best I've ever experienced in buying sporting equipment. Glenn at Cruiser spent a good 20 minutes with me by phone, providing information not covered in the website. The board arrived 2 days earlier than promised and without ascratch. All in all, a great board at a great price.

Paddleboard Direct

Hi Mark Thanks for your review. How much do you weigh? All of the feedback we received highlighted how stable the boards are. Where are you standing relative to the handle? Please play around with a little in front or behind the handle, to test engaging the keel the nose. Then see if you can bump it up to a 5 star rating (especially the value - high quality compared to the attractive price of the board) Please let us know if we can assist your further. Happy paddling!
